Infested.

That's right. The rental house has mice. Not just one or two, but a whole family!

It all started the other night, we were working in the living room, putting things away and there were empty boxes all over the room. There was one box that two nights before had been filled with DVDs that I personally unpacked myself. I would have noticed if a mouse had been in the box then. The box, now "empty", was sitting on the couch and I went to break it down. I looked inside to find a little mouse. Of course, I freaked and screamed and Johnathan carried the box outside and tossed the mouse out.
I thought that was the end of it...however, I walked inside today to get busy working on unpacking some more items and getting our kitchen/dining room together, when I heard something near one of our boxes filled with pots and pans. At first it startled me, because I was the only one in the house. As I got closer to the box and listened I heard it again, only this time, I clearly could hear the pitter-patter of paws coming from inside the box. I knew there was a mouse inside. Just as I was about to turn and walk out, I saw a little mouse scurry across the floor. UHHHHHH!! Why me! I hate mice in the house. They are cute when they are where they are supposed to be, in cages.
Needless to say, I will not be going back to the house until Johnathan gets home and can work with me. I just can't deal with mice by myself.

We will see what happens. All I know is that if I have to live in that house, I won't be living with mice. It is now a battle between me and the mice.

We shall see who comes out on top...

Oh Christmas Tree!

This Christmas season has been one of ups and downs. I have been a nervous, stressful wreck the past couple of weeks trying to finish up this semester (final projects, finals, deadlines, etc.) and preparing for next semester (my last semester!). Johnathan has been doing his online certification for technical writing and, of course, working like a mad man to provide for his tiny family (love him). However, with all of this stress and negativity there have been some happy tidings come our way. We found out a couple of weeks ago that my cousin was moving out of "the" rental house.

What is "the" rental house you may ask?

Well, I will tell you.

This house belonged to my great grandfather. He built it from the ground up and it has been around for a little under 100 years. Needless to say it is a bit rickety and not in the finest shape, but it has lots and lots of happy memories. :)
After my great grandfather passed away, my grandmother started renting his little, old house out to family members. I can't tell you how many grandchildren have rented this house, especially newlywed grandchildren!

So I guess it's my turn.

At the beginning of this Christmas season I was a little downhearted, and please let me tell you, I hate to be downhearted at Christmas time.

I was downhearted because my first year as a married woman I would not be able to enjoy the luxury of my very own Christmas tree with my husband. I would not be able to enjoy decorating the house while blasting Christmas tunes. I would not be able to enjoy baking my very own Christmas cookies. I just wouldn't be able to enjoy my first Christmas in my own place, but now I can. With Christmas almost 2 weeks away and us moving in on Saturday we finally get to start our own holiday traditions!!

Bring on the Christmas cheer!
